Year 3

Welcome to Year 3!

Year 3 have some very exciting and interesting themes during the year which explore a variety of curriculum areas.

We begin in the Autumn term by going on a prehistoric adventure through time during our 'Stone Age to Iron Age' topic! We become historians and archaeologists looking at evidence found from the different periods of time and explore what life would have been like to be a Stone Age boy or girl. We explore the lifestyle, food, tools, clothing and homes in the Stone Age and how they changed throughout the Bronze and Iron Age. We soon discover it is not really like 'The Flintstones' at all!

In the Spring, we are off to America in our topic based around 'South America'. We begin by finding out all about the countries which make up South America. We study local jobs with an emphasis on farming and plantations particularly for the production of cocoa. We create explanation texts around how confectionery is created from the cocoa farms and through a focus on 'Charlie and the Chocolate factory', we design our own confectionery brands. Through history we focus briefly on the Aztecs and their settlement within North America, with a focus on their inspiration on many aspects of South American life. During Spring we are also fortunate to endeavour on a mini-topic around Lye focusing on different cultures, lifestyles and faiths.

In the Summer term, all hail Caesar as we're off on a Roman adventure! Through a focus on daily life within Roman times we explore the Roman baths, houses, clothing, roman numerals through Maths and explore mosaics and murals through Art. We also have an emphasis on Gladiators, weaponry and the army through artefacts and evidence from the past. We will design and make our own Roman shields and moving catapult models to feel a part of a real Roman army.
